NO LIVE BAND - WHAT A LET DOWN - OTHERWISE A GOOD SHOW

Saw this at the Previews in London 21st April. Show is general is well thought out and well presented (Will forgive the refereces to Mobile Phones in a 70s based show!) Cast is great, with some very talented mains an ensemble, felt of all the vocals the biggest let down was David Essex who seemed to coast through the show - very laid back. But the real letdown is the band (or lack of it) - How on earth can you put on a show like this with a recorded score rather than live music, it killed the atmosphere stone cold and no matter how good the cast its a big hill to climb to overcome the lack of live music worth seeing but will not return. Think the producers need a visit to We Will Rock You to see what a live band can do to a show!

WHAT A SHAME !!

Saw David Essex in All the fun at the fair last night and it was enjoyable but the experience of going to the Garrick was not. Staff would not open bar on time and sat lounging around staring at us before opening at nearly 6.55 ten minutes late. Someone complained and the Manager pulled a face and made a comment very unprofessional. Drinks were lukewarm, theatre was only about a third full yet tickets very expensive for the size of production - I think the staff probably outnumbered the performers. Finally felt totally ripped off by having to pay £13.00 for two plastic beakers of slightly warm wine at the interval. We were told afterwards that we could have requested glasses but had not been offered this. If the theatres want to stay in business perhaps they should consider their marketing as surely selling seats at a more reasonable price mid week would ensure a larger audience rather than the small number of people there last night. David Essex sang well but just hate being ripped of

NOT SO-FUN-OF THE-FAIR

This West End show does not match up to the more appealing touring production. The changes under new direction are not to the good in my opinion. Scenes were cut short and some songs were either missed out or shortened. I didn't feel any connection with the audience from any of the cast either. Maybe anyone who hasn't seen All The Fun of the Fair when it toured and have nothing to compare it with, may see it through different eyes, but for me, it was a soul-less performance.

WHERE WAS THE FUN!

Saw this production in Bristol and though it was good hearing all the David Essex numbers I felt that David himself was a little lack lustre! His performance was VERY lazy and some of his acting left a lot to be desired. Women of a certain age loved it - ( whatever he did!) Come on David give a bit more of yourself and stop thinking that you don't need to! It shows!!! The rest of the cast were GREAT! Not bothered about seeing it again and wouldn't recommend it unless you're a HUGE David Essex fan. Rock On! Thanks! Annie Marshall.
